About NIMH

The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) is the official hydrometeorological service in Bulgaria. The first meteorological service, predecessor of NIMH, was established in February 1890.

NIMH is the main institution for research, applied and operational activities in the field of meteorology, hydrology and agrometeorology in the country. It is providing high quality services, expertise and specialized information for the territory of the country and the Black Sea to the national and local authorities, society and a wide range of users in the fields of its competence.

NIMH is the official representative of Bulgaria in the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and other international organizations in the field of meteorology and hydrology.

 

About SRTI-BAS

The mission of SRTI-BAS is the conduct of fundamental and applied studies in the field of Space Physics, Remote Sensing of the Earth and Planets, and Aerospace Systems and Technologies.

The priorities of SRTI-BAS are:

  • Solar-Terrestrial and Space Physics (solar wind, magnetospheric and ionospheric physics, high and middle atmospheric physics, space weather);
  • High-energy astrophysics, galactic cosmic rays;
  • Medico-biological studies, space biotechnologies, heliobiology, telemedicine;
  • Design, development and transfer of methods, instrumentation and technologies for remote sensing of the Earth, regional and global monitoring of the environment and security;
  • Research in the field of obtaining and application of new superhard materials;
  • Development of innovative aerospace instrumentation and technologies, as well as their transfer to economy.
